Model United Nations Project
On Wednesday 6 December, Year 9 students were model diplomats for The Grange school during their Model UN visit to The Misbourne School. Our students spent the day pushing their boundaries in meaningful collaboration with students from other schools in Buckinghamshire.
Whilst initially hesitant to mix and mingle with the hundred plus other students in the hall, our students soon came out of their shells as they worked with others to imagine and illustrate their perfect society.
Following this activity, students also joined with their peers in ranking and justifying the United Nations various sustainability targets. At this point, the students were buzzing. There was an energy in the air as our brilliant representatives waited to be given their country.
“It was like the sorting hat from Harry Potter”
By the end of the journey, the students were thrilled with the day that they had and very excited for the future:
“I can’t wait for the debate,” said one
“I can’t wait to go back and see my new friends from the other schools” said another.
Our next trip out will be in the New Year on the 22 January 2024, when representatives will meet in Amersham to get their first experiences of what debating on our finale day will be like.
The Model UN has been a truly wonderful experience so far in building our students’ socialisation skills, and the oracy, problem solving, critical thinking, and communications skills that they will develop during the course of this process. It’s truly provided our students with a brilliant opportunity that they have most definitely been making the most of!
